The challenge
With more than 200 production sites and over 1000 different production lines and machines, Wienerberger and Pipelife supply a wide range of products within building materials and construction industry.
These numerous production lines lead to many different machines and process control systems that house valuable production data. To centrally collect and provide this local data and ensure an optimized production process, an economical, industry-standard and scalable solution was needed.
The solution
By transferring the company's vision of "all relevant data available online all the time" and creating "Digital Twins", TietoEVRY supports Wienerberger & Pipelife with full digitalization power.
This allowed connections to hundreds of data points to be established, thousands of signals per second to be transmitted to a central data hub in an Azure-based cloud environment. Azure functionalities are used to ingest, store, analyze and visualize the data streams. User group-specific access enables customized views. The advantage: different roles can work with different, yet specific information, relevant to them.
About the customer
Wienerberger AG is the largest producer of solutions for brick masonry and ceramic roofing systems in Austria. The company operates six production sites for hollow bricks and three sites producing roof tiles in Austria. Pipelife Austria is the leading plastic pipe manufacturer in Austria and produces sustainable, high-quality, and innovative products and solutions for infrastructure, construction services, and irrigation.

More about the solution
In line with the vision of "all relevant data available online all the time", Wienerberger & Pipelife together with TietoEVRY have found new challenges and ways to increase overall efficiency by means of production data and to create sustainable added value through active data utilization.
With the visualization of the data, a big step was taken and a solid basis for further digitization offensives was created.
- First, the solution enables global visibility into production sites and respective machine performance.
- Second, with a centralized data hub (cloud), the data can be easily leveraged to improve daily plant operations.
- Third, as the solution is rolled out on an ongoing basis, the production data provides a fundamental foundation for cross-functional optimization teams to gain insights to increase process efficiency (raw material, maintenance, machine settings, shift operations, quality control, etc.).
