The challenge

Increasing clinical understanding for the updated version of Lifecare and its applications. Presentation of updates to clinicians before the release and implementation of development proposals. In the past, clinicians have been presented with an almost completed version.

In the workshops hosted by Tietoevry, customer understanding has been deepened, and the special needs of different user groups have been acknowledged. Clinicians have been able to influence and make changes according to their needs in the early stages of the process.

About the customer

Päijät Sote - Päijät-Häme wellbeing services county organizes the public social and health care services in Päijät-Häme. In addition, the wellbeing services county organizes environmental health care services in 12 member regions. Päijät-Sote has about 7,000 employees, and its central hospital is located in Lahti. Päijät-Sote is part of the special responsibility area of HUS Helsinki University Hospital.

At the heart of the partnership

The first meetings in partnership have received praise from Päijät-Sote's clinicians and given them the opportunity to have an impact on the content of the upcoming version update.

The workshops have deepened customer understanding, provided in-depth knowledge of the special needs of different user groups, and ensured that the new version serves the needs of all end-users. After this preparation work, other hospital districts can implement the new update with confidence.

“We have done the piloting, and now, for the first time, we have more extensive work and collaboration. When the next bigger updates come, some other hospital district will be in the same position”, says nurse Mari Kivioja.

 

The experts from Tietoevry showed up with the mentality of asking if this works or not. And if it doesn’t work, then what would work better.

Direct contact to different user groups

The deployment in the spring of 2022 was prepared in collaboration with clinicians. The workshops were organized between different professional and industry groups, and about 90 people from different units participated in the sessions.

One important aspect of development work is considering different units' different needs. Within the same organization, it's not always clear how important a particular feature in a system can be to another unit.

“It may be that one unit is using a certain feature and the other units are not using it at all. Tietoevry has been in direct contact with various units and has done investigations. People have been heard”, says Kivioja.

Dialogue at the heart of the development work

Päijät-Sote's staff has been satisfied with the speed with which development requests have been met.

“When requests came up at the workshops and there was a meeting after to discuss what is being done to these requests, some of them had already been implemented,” Kivioja says.

Kivioja and Sorvali think that the workshops increased mutual understanding and reciprocal learning.

“Good experts were able to explain the context to us, such as the legal frameworks. Of course, we don’t know all of these and don’t need to. The program is there to guide these frameworks, and we don’t have to remember and know everything”, Sorvali says.

I think the workshops were really authentic. Maybe the people met who were supposed to meet.
