The challenge

ABA Skol had an outdated website and e-commerce solution that failed to meet customer expectations and business requirements. Due to its outdated technology, the website was challenging to manage and lacked flexibility, hindering ABA Skol's ability to innovate and expand in the Nordics. As a result, ABA Skol sought a new solution to optimize their workflow, address customer needs, enhance their offerings, and achieve growth in the market.

Together, we took a holistic approach to the solution

To simplify and streamline administrative work, ABA Skol sought an e-commerce advisory partner that could offer a comprehensive technical platform. After careful consideration, they chose Tietoevry Create, who had previously been a supplier of their ERP system. Tietoevry's expertise in e-commerce made them the ideal choice for ABA Skol's needs.

To optimize the customer experience and simplify ABA Skol's employees' work, a new approach was necessary for their website and e-commerce solution. As Tietoevry had previously been a supplier of their business system (ERP), ABA Skol chose them as their advisory partner for e-commerce, as they could take a comprehensive approach to the solution and leverage synergies to achieve their goals.

Close collaboration from start to finish

Tietoevry worked together with ABA Skol to define, create, and launch abaskol.se.

To kickstart the project, we collaborated to identify the key components for the initial release of the new e-commerce platform, with a focus on developing a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) that meets customer demands, aligns with ABA Skol's business objectives, and streamlines workflow processes.

Sometimes one wonders why a pre-work is needed, but I think it was great. We built the customer journey in a User Story Map that Tietoevry had pre-prepared and adapted to our specific requirements.

After evaluating various platforms, we carefully designed the technical solution that met ABA Skol's needs. Our selection consisted of Umbraco for content management (CMS), Inriver PIM for product information management, and Ucommerce for e-commerce functionality. The Inriver PIM system enables efficient management of ABA Skol's vast product catalog, allowing for easy product enrichment with descriptive texts and images. This, in turn, ensures uniformity in product information across all sales channels, including e-commerce.

To set the stage for a swift and efficient start to development, our next move was to establish a solid implementation plan. Once that was in place, we proceeded with crafting a website and e-commerce platform that fully met the user needs we had collaboratively defined.

It worked well to run the PIM and web development in parallel. We allocated key personnel internally to work on product information, and they have become so knowledgeable during the process that they are now PIM experts!

The project was managed using an agile sprint methodology, with ABA School's project manager actively involved in daily activities to coordinate efforts and make key decisions. The project was divided into two tracks: one focused on building and integrating the new web and e-commerce platform, and the other focused on creating a data model for product information (PIM) and configuring the chosen system (Inriver PIM).

The Result

The project was a success and delivered as planned. Tietoevry Create's development model is founded on co-creation, which allowed for ABA School and Tietoevry to collaborate and achieve the outcome together.

Tietoevry Create has great project management, social people with high competence in various roles. The work has been serious and professional.

Today, ABA School boasts a modern and highly functional website with e-commerce capabilities that satisfy customer needs and offer room for future growth. A key priority was developing an intuitive search function that recommends relevant search terms and filtering options. The ability to handle purchases for multiple schools and preschools from accounts with the appropriate permissions has also been highly valued.

The implementation of the new solution has significantly improved the workflow for ABA School's staff compared to the previous system. The introduction of the new PIM system has especially been instrumental in enhancing the efficiency and quality of product information published across various sales channels. The intuitive interface and streamlined processes have made it easier for the staff to manage and maintain the extensive product catalog, resulting in a more effective and productive workflow.

Next Steps in Development

Once the e-commerce platform is launched, it becomes imperative to implement a structured approach to continuous improvements that align with ABA School's business goals and user needs.

We continuously evaluate the results of our joint efforts against the established business goals to determine what works and what doesn't. By working collaboratively with ABA School, we are able to stay agile and make necessary adjustments to create the best possible results.
