Tietoevry updates its gender balance target to 49/49 and makes space for inclusion

06 May 2024

Technology is a key enabler when solving the problems of today and tomorrow. The shortage of technology talent amplifies the need for diverse teams. Diversity and inclusion are crucial in many ways: workforces representing and respecting varied perspectives and approaches are known to achieve better decisions, increase innovation and thereby support the organization’s success.

For definite reasons, gender balance, the need to attract more women to the industry, continues to be a key focus for technology companies, Tietoevry included.

Simultaneously, it is important to make space for inclusion. Therefore, Tietoevry has updated its 50/50 gender-balance target to 49/49. With this change, we signify to respect the right each individual has to self-identify and that everyone is welcome as they are. The 49/49 target correlates to 1% of non-binary or other gender groups in the global population.**

“We have been vocal and proud about our target to reach a 50/50 gender balance by 2030. However, as a side effect, the policies that are meant to advance inclusion are not, in fact, inclusive. In this specific context, they can come across as even exclusive to people who identify themselves outside the binary gender system. That’s why we have updated our goal to 49/49 gender balance over time. With this we signal and commit to making space for inclusion,” says Trond Vinje, Head of HR at Tietoevry.

Partners with Pride to enhance inclusive company culture globally

At Tietoevry, we believe that involving businesses in Pride sends an important message and helps raise awareness among employers on how to promote inclusion and create a company culture that welcomes everybody. It also mirrors our broader commitment to promoting equal opportunities and advancing diversity.

"Supporting Pride is one way that we as a company can show our support for the LGBTQ+ community. Creating a culture that values diversity and inclusion makes us stronger as a business. Moreover, we know that this is something that many of our colleagues are very passionate about and that they want to contribute to. We have been, and continue to be, proud to strive for organizational inclusion by welcoming all people, regardless of gender identity and sexual orientation," Trond Vinje continues.

In March, Tietoevry launched a Sustainability Pledge to guide and accelerate the company’s sustainability performance for 2024 and beyond. The pledge includes three pillars climate action, ethical conduct and social impact.

We are committed to respecting and support human rights and labour rights across our operations and have set the following targets for social impact:

  • Respect human rights
  • Zero discrimination and harassment
  • Achieve 49/49 gender balance over time
  • 30% underrepresented gender in leadership positions by 2030
