In Lumme Energia's solution, the building services technology of their head office, together with Etelä-Savon Energia's Foremica energy management system, solar panels, battery energy storage and electric vehicle charging, are connected to Tieto's cloud-based energy management platform, Tieto Distributed Energy Solution (DES). This system provides consumption flexibility needed to balance out the fluctuation of weather-dependent power production.

Smart platform combines power production, distribution and consumption
Tieto and Lumme Energia's solution enables smart, centralised management of small-scale power production, energy storages, electric vehicle charging and building services automation. With the digital platform, energy consumption can be optimised, resulting in decreased costs, and the same resources can be used as a virtual power plant. The virtual power plant helps us in our mission of increasing consumption flexibility in the Finnish energy system. The solution enables an increase in renewable energy sources such as solar and wind to replace production based on fossil fuels. When smart energy solutions gradually become more common, they create savings as the necessary consumption flexibility can be achieved cost-effectively with the help of virtual power plants.
