Finland’s main hospital district HUS chooses TietoEVRY to develop digital health services

15 April 2021

The Helsinki and Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS) has chosen TietoEVRY to develop digital health services and the Digital Health Village project. The partnership aims to further the design of seamless web and mobile healthcare services for Finnish citizens.

The new contract means TietoEVRY will continue to deliver architecture and application development for HUS e-Health services and its Digital Health Village – a single portal with multiple health services for citizens. TietoEVRY uses agile software development and service concept design to create smoother web and mobile applications for digital health services, including those for remote care and self-care.

“We are proud to be at the forefront of creating digital solutions for healthcare in Finland. Thanks to our solid expertise in healthcare and social-welfare systems, as well as our pioneering work in the development of data-driven healthcare and technologies related to digital services, we can develop the services as a whole,” says Ilona Raitakari, Head of Digital Health at TietoEVRY.

The e-Health services developed in 2020 with HUS include pandemic guidance for citizens and professionals on testing and vaccination, as well as the development of infection-tracking software. Digital Health Village service was developed further as well. The website has seen a significant increase in usage during the pandemic and has been visted more than 11.9 million times this year alone. The internationally unique service has potential to be extended to other Nordic countries too.

TietoEVRY is also a strategic partner for HUS in developing data-driven healthcare services. When intelligent data analytics are applied to digital-care paths, services can be better designed to support preventive care and more comprehensive care overall.

TietoEVRY is one of the two IT suppliers HUS has selected for the agreement. The contract is valid on an ongoing basis and has a maximum annual value of EUR 10 million, without any purchase obligations. The procurement decision comes into effect at the end of the appeal period as set out in the Act on Public Procurement.
