Tieto brings data expertise to the eCare for Me initiative

The initiative is targeting faster treatment of rare diseases.

17 April 2019

Tieto is bringing its data expertise to eCare for Me, a development project funded by Business Finland that’s exploring new healthcare product and service concepts based on artificial intelligence. Driven by the Helsinki University Hospital (HUS) and Tieto within the CleverHealth Network ecosystem, Tieto sees the project as a unique opportunity to conduct artificial intelligence research with HUS's world-class research teams. Consequently, Tieto plans to invest more than €1.4 million in the project within the next three years.

The eCare for Me project examines artificial intelligence-based methods to accelerate the early identification of diseases and ensure patients receive the right treatment faster. The data lake infrastructure Tieto provides to HUS plays a key role in the project as it enables efficient and safe use of health data.

The first solutions to be researched in the project relate to the early diagnosis of rare diseases, individualized treatment of acute leukemia, and the optimization of home dialysis. The solutions aim to improve patients’ quality of life and increase cost-effectiveness. For example, in Finland alone, by increasing home dialysis, savings of several million euros can be made annually. The project aims to develop product concepts that are suitable for healthcare use internationally.

“We are excited about the possibility to research data analytics and artificial intelligence-based methods with the CleverHealth Network ecosystem to create totally new kinds of healthcare services. By providing data to healthcare professionals in the right format at the right time, patients can get the right treatment faster and in a way that’s more personalized and targeted,” says Matti Ristimäki, Director, Intelligent Wellbeing at Tieto.

Tieto Intelligent Wellbeing is a product family for processing and presenting medical data, as well creating predictive models based on machine learning and artificial intelligence.
