IoT solutions at workplaces increase the well-being of employees

24 October 2018

Internet of Things (IoT) is coming to work spaces at full speed. The benefits are clear: IoT solutions make work days smoother and increase the well-being of employees. It is a human-centric digital service that focuses on improving employee well-being and happiness and increasing productivity.

By automating time-consuming and non-productive tasks of in-office communication and administration, it encourages employees to straight-forward human interaction, collaboration and co-innovation. With the help of IoT sensors and software solutions, employees can easily find a suitable space for their work at a flex office. No reservation systems are needed as employees can see available spaces in real time via the software. The utilization rate of spaces increases, as data is gathered about the usage of spaces. Unused spaces are easily spotted and can be re-designed for better use.

“We have been piloting the system and the first experiences are really positive. The well-being of employees has increased” says Antti Olin, Director of Working customer area at Isku.

In IoT solutions, Isku is partnering with Nordic software and services company Tieto to offer intelligent solutions to its customers.

Improved communication

In addition to spaces, the system can also track the movement of employees in the office space. This comes especially useful in a very large office building. The system shows where your coworkers are and if they are available. It helps office users to choose intuitively and instantly with whom to work and where to work.

“This way, spontaneous face-to-face meetings are made easy and communication improves”, says Gunnar Tolf, Head of Commercialisation for Data Driven Businesses at Tieto.

Additional benefits are also improved maintenance of spaces, IT solutions and furniture. When employees report maintenance calls via the system, the faults are easily found. It is also easy for the employees to report problems.

“This way we ensure that the spaces and furniture are functional all the time”, says Antti Olin.
