A former Tieto Latvia employee convicted for bribery - corrective action taken

Referring to earlier information published on 31 January 2018, a former Tieto employee, who has been active in limited business operations in Belarus, has been convicted for bribery. The investigation and trial have concerned the person as an individual, not Tieto as a company. Related to this case, Tieto has conducted an independent investigation with an external auditor, and taken action according to the findings.  

To gain a more thorough understanding of the events, Tieto conducted its own investigation with an independent third party. The investigation confirmed the suspicion about the misuse of Tieto’s assets, and concluded that the financial impact of the incident was immaterial, as anticipated earlier. The investigation indicates improvement needs in the area of local partnership management during the time when the transactions happened.

Tieto has taken corrective action to ensure that this does not repeat. The majority of the improvement needs identified in the local operations had already been corrected during the time of investigation. We have had a supplier onboarding policy in place for several years already, and strengthened it further in 2016 to ensure compliance with our Code of Conduct. Based on the findings of the report, we will evaluate and analyse further needs for continuous improvement.

Tieto has zero tolerance towards any unethical behavior or misconduct in its operations, and requires all employees worldwide as well as suppliers and their subcontractors to comply with the national legislation and the principles set out in the company’s ethical guidelines, Code of Conduct. Tieto’s Code of Conduct is in accordance with United Nations Global Compact and the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises.
