The Finnish Medicines Agency (Fimea) has chosen Tieto Tech Consulting (formerly Tietoevry Create) as its partner to develop the national pharmaceutical information repository called Farmasto. This project marks a major step forward in the digitalization of Finnish pharmaceutical services.
The initiative is nationally significant as it consolidates information related to Finnish pharmaceutical services and enhances authorities’ work in managing pharmaceutical data. The project will strongly emphasize security, scalability, and user-centricity. The goal is to create a solution that serves both authorities and citizens in a versatile way.
“We are pleased to announce that the practical construction of Farmasto will begin in 2026. After a long period of planning and preparation, we are excited to move forward to the concrete implementation,” says Johanna Seppänen, Director of Information and Development Services at Fimea.
The agreement between Fimea and Tieto Tech Consulting covers the design and development of the data platform, databases, and information management, as well as optional support and maintenance services. The platform will serve as the foundation for storing, organizing, and processing pharmaceutical data. A scalable, secure, and user-friendly platform will be implemented using modern Microsoft technologies such as Azure, Fabric, and Power Platform.
“This decision is a great recognition of our ability to deliver solutions for critical national services. By combining modern technologies with our strong expertise, we ensure that the project supports authorities’ work and improves pharmaceutical data management in Finland. We are proud of this collaboration and committed to its successful implementation,” says Antti Pudas, Head of Public Services Business, Tieto Tech Consulting, Finland.

The national medicine information repository will be named Farmasto. Farmasto brings together up-to-date, reliable, and official information about medicines in an unprecedented way. All content and services will be available at the website farmasto.fi. Read more about Farmasto in Fimea’s press release (in Finnish).
