Trust, freedom and equality – This is why people choose us
When everyone can be their true selves, success follows. We have been working with determination to build an excellent employee experience and a strong company culture.
It’s inspiring to see our ambition and work to resonate externally as well: Tieto has risen to the top ranks of the most attractive employers in Finland’s IT sector. Universum’s employer branding study, which also measures the perceptions of IT professionals, placed Tieto among the top five in its September 2025 release. We climbed an impressive 11 spots, from 16th to 5th. I believe that trust, freedom and equality are deeply rooted in our culture, and these values make us a truly attractive employer.
Flexibility creates space and energy
Work should be built on trust and autonomy. Our aim is to find ways of working that support collaboration while also promoting individual well-being and performance. Our hybrid model is flexible, allowing each team to decide the practices that suit them best. While remote work is fully supported, we also encourage meaningful in‑person interactions.
I see these encounters are vital — they strengthen team spirit, build trust and create room for creativity. Personally, I enjoy working from the office. Meeting colleagues gives me energy and the kind of valuable tacit knowledge that doesn’t always come through remotely.
Within our unit, our own 'People and Culture team' actively supports a sense of community, and I am delighted to be part of this work. Even though I enjoy being on site, I deeply value the flexibility that allows me to balance work, everyday life and free time. Trust and freedom benefit not only individuals but the entire organisation.
Room to grow builds strong careers
Continuous development is part of our culture and essential for the longevity of our business. Supporting learning should never be occasional or tied to a single programme. It must be a continuous journey throughout one’s career. We have countless examples of long, diverse career paths and even “second‑generation Tieto people.”
This is made possible through various opportunities to grow and develop, including training, mentoring programmes and leadership development initiatives.
A long career doesn’t mean standing still, but quite the opposite. Experience is valuable. As we build the future around themes like artificial intelligence and sustainability, we are challenged to learn something new every day. We meet this challenge with an open mind. In a rapidly evolving environment, we ensure that skills remain relevant and that everyone has the space to strengthen their expertise. It’s an investment in our people and in our shared success.
Diverse and rich community connects
According to the Universum study, one of Tieto’s strengths is genuine appreciation for people. This is visible, above all, in how employees’ ideas and thoughts are given space and how openly they are received. Whether it’s an idea for a new hobby group or a proposal to develop a business model, we aim to surface and advance ideas in the best possible way.
Diversity is a core value for us, and we invest in it meaningfully. There are no ready‑made molds. For us, a diverse workplace is a strength, a place where everyone can be themselves. Treating people with respect creates psychological safety and trust, which are essential for strong collaboration.
Tieto’s active 'Rainbow Network' organises events and participates in Pride initiatives, bringing people together and strengthening our diverse culture.
Equality strengthens our appeal
In the Universum study, Tieto performed particularly well among women. Many women ranked Tieto as one of the most attractive employers in the IT field. I believe this stems from our intentional path and commitment to increasing diversity. We also constantly reflect on how the IT industry could become even more attractive to women. We want to ensure a more equal field now and in the future.
Equality, to us, is much more than gender balance. Everyone should have equal opportunities to participate, grow and succeed — and to have that regardless of background, age or life situation. I believe that living by these values strengthens us and contributes to progressing the entire industry.
Work shouldn’t be your whole life, but It can enrich It. What makes my work meaningful is the opportunity to work with talented colleagues, to develop, to make an impact and to be my true self. That’s a pretty great combination.
