Tietoevry and Microsoft begin new AI automation collaboration – vast benefits for heavy-asset and manufacturing industries

Helping customers on their journey from automated industrial systems to truly autonomous ones.

04 May 2022

On 4 May, Tietoevry and Microsoft have today announced a strategic collaboration in Artificial Intelligence (AI) automation. Tietoevry will become Microsoft’s partner of choice in Northern Europe for the delivery of AI-powered solutions for autonomous industrial control systems based on Microsoft’s Project Bonsai low-code Platform. The partnership will help the industry to capture the benefits of AI-driven automation.

Project Bonsai is a low code AI development platform that speeds up the creation of AI-powered automation processes to improve production efficiency and reduce downtime. Without requiring data science expertise, engineers can build specific AI components that provide operator guidance or directly make decisions that optimize process variables.

”This collaboration is an important step in helping customers on their journey from automated systems to truly autonomous ones. We have already experienced how Project Bonsai has brought that value to the first selection of our customers. Now we are eager to build the scale and deliver similar benefits with Tietoevry, leveraging the company’s industry knowledge, customer intimacy, expertise in data, AI, cloud and business transformation services”, says Laurence Janssens, Head of Manufacturing in Western Europe at Microsoft.

“We are extremely happy to extend our collaboration with Microsoft. We package technology and industry knowledge in such a way that together with our customers we can accelerate the benefits of automation – improving quality, productivity, and cost-efficiency. The savings potential for our customers is significant when we move towards autonomous operations. AI-driven automation can also help in reaching sustainability-related targets – for example by reducing waste and optimizing energy consumption”, says Jaakko Tapanainen, Head of Industry & Forest at Tietoevry Transform.

AI deployments traditionally require vast investments in data science expertise, which often hinders companies from reaching the full benefits of automation. The Project Bonsai low code platform provides companies with effortless validation of their automation potential, while also enabling scalability. The platform helps industrial companies to reach the best possible quality for process outcomes, for example in pulp and energy production. Instead of needing to manually adjust production process inputs to reach the optimal result, engineers can use Project Bonsai to build intelligent controllers that sense and adapt to changing environments.

“We’re excited to pair the unique Project Bonsai AI-development platform with Tietoevry’s implementation power and vast data and cloud expertise, for example in Microsoft Azure, to help customers transform their business,” Jannsens concludes.
