TietoEVRY’s project with the City of Vaasa awarded with a silver prize in a European ranking of smart cities

The recognition supports TietoEVRY’s ambitions to increase its offerings related to sustainability and cities.

11 December 2020

TietoEVRY has been awarded second place in IDC’s 2020 Smart Cities and Communities Europe and Central Asia Awards in the category for Resilient Infrastructure. The recognition came for the Decarbonisation Platform project to the city of Vaasa, completed during 2020.

In the pilot project, jointly with the City of Vaasa, Wärtsilä and Vaasan Sähkö a tool was created to allow a real-time view on which climate activities have the most impact in the city landscape. With the new tool, it is possible to demonstrate where and how the city’s emissions are generated, which allows the efficiency of different measures to be simulated and verified.

“We are extremely happy to be ranked so high among our peers throughout Europe and Central Asia. This shows we are on the right path developing solutions that provide cities a real-time view and a simulation environment to test the most effective actions to fight climate change”, says Fredrik Jansson, Principal Consultant in Data Transformation at TietoEVRY.

Excellent collaboration with partners in the Vaasa project was the main reason for the success of the project. Even though cities have similarities in their blueprints, local collaboration is the key to create a holistic view of a city’s emission load.

“We are currently looking into how to expand the learnings from the Vaasa project to further collaborations", Jansson sums.
