Ahoj, jmenuji se Chris a ve společnosti Tieto pracuji téměř 4 roky. Před dvěma lety jsem se rozhodl nastoupit na univerzitu, abych se stal zdravotníkem. Teď v polovině té doby jsem se také rozhodl opustit svět IT a stát se technikem na urgentním příjmu v jedné z ostravských nemocnic,
Jak se budoucí záchranář vůbec dostane do IT firmy?
Vždycky jsem se chtěl stát záchranářem. Chtěl jsem jít studovat vysokou školu hned, jak to půjde, ale po střední škole jsem si musel najít práci, bydlení a všechny dospělácké věci s tím spojené.
Začal jsem tedy hledat ideální práci, která by mi umožnila studovat tak složitý obor. Narazil jsem tedy na práci v IT a asi po roce práce v servisním oddělení jsem se rozhodl zmáčknout spoušť a nastoupit na univerzitu. S pomocí mého přímého nadřízeného se mi podařilo dobře sladit pracovní a školní život. Bylo to opravdu stresující období, ale díky dobrému plánování směn a spoustě kávy a energetických nápojů se mi podařilo zvládnout druhý ročník studia. Nyní mi zbývá jeden rok a mám otevřeno více dveří než dříve. Díky tomu se mi podařilo získat práci jako technik na urgentním příjmu.
Je něco, co mají tyto dvě oblasti společné? A jaký je ten největší rozdíl?
IT mě naučilo jednu z nejdůležitějších dovedností pro záchranáře. A tou je schopnost mluvit každý den s různými lidmi a porozumět jejich potřebám. Tyto dvě profese se nemohou lišit více, ale nakonec oba obory chtějí pro své "zákazníky" udělat to nejlepší.
A v čem je největší rozdíl? To je těžké říci. Jako záchranář se setkáte s těmi nejhoršími i nejlepšími lidmi na tomto světě a pokaždé ze sebe musíte vydat 100 %, ale řekl bych, že zvedání lidí se rychle omrzí! Docela rozdíl, když jsem seděl 8 hodin za stolem.
Co Tě v nejbližších letech čeká?
Cesta k tomu stát se záchranářem je docela dlouhá a není nejjednodušší. Abyste se stali záchranářem, musíte absolvovat tři roky na univerzitě. a aby záchranáři mohli pracovat sami v sanitce, musíte po škole absolvovat jeden rok na pohotovosti, JIP nebo anesteziologicko-resuscitačním oddělení. Takže to jsou 4 roky, než budete moci pracovat v sanitce. Poté musíte neustále trénovat a studovat, protože praxe dělá mistra.
Těšíš se?
Je to ta nejpřínosnější věc, kterou jsem v životě dělal, a těším se, že budu ve zdravotnictví pomáhat lidem a zlepšovat jim jejich nejhorší den.
Být tam není právo, ale výsada.

Hi, my name is Chris, and I'm with Tieto for almost 4 years. Two years ago, I decided to start university to become a paramedic. Now halfway into that I also decided to leave the IT world and become an emergency room technician in one of the Ostrava hospitals.
How does a paramedic find himself in an IT company?
I have always wanted to become a paramedic. I wanted to go study uni as soon as I was able to but, after high school, I had to find myself a job, a place to live, and all the adult stuff related to that.
So I started searching for a perfect job that would allow me to study such a complex field. So I stumbled across a job in IT and after a year or so with the service desk, I decided to pull the trigger and start the uni. With the help of my line manager, I was able to balance work/school life just fine. It was was really stressful time period but thanks to the good shift planning, and a lot of coffee and energy drinks I was able to make it to the second year of my study. Now I have one year left and more doors open than before. Thanks to that I was able to score a job as an emergency room technician.
Is there anything that connects these two jobs? And on the contrary, what do you see as the biggest difference between them?
IT taught me one of the most crucial skills for a paramedic. And that's the ability to talk to different people every day and understand their needs. These two jobs could not differ more but at the end of the day both fields want to do what is best for their "customers". And what is the biggest difference? That is hard to say. As a paramedic, you will see the worst and the best in this world and you have to give your 100% every time but I would say that lifting people gets tiring pretty fast! Quite a difference when I was sitting 8 hours behind the desk.
What's ahead of you in the next few years as a paramedic?
The road to becoming a paramedic is quite long and not the easiest. You have to complete 3 years of uni to become a paramedic. and for paramedics to be able to work alone in the ambulance you will have to do one year in the emergency room, ICU, or anesthesiology and resuscitation ward after school. So it's 4 years before you can work in an ambulance. After that, you have to train and study all the time as practice makes perfect.
Are you looking forward to it?
It is the most rewarding thing I did in my entire life and I look forward to being in healthcare and helping people and making their worst day a bit better.
Being there is not a right, but a privilege.
